For their first solo presentation in the UK Boudry/Lorenz present the film installations Toxic (2012) and Salomania (2009) as a ‚toxic play in two acts‘, bringing together performances by Ginger Brooks Takahashi, Werner Hirsch, Yvonne Rainer and Wu Tsang, and a series of slippages between the improvised act and the staged performance in film.
Stepping in and out of suppressed or illegible moments, the Berlin-based artist duo Pauline Boudry/Renate Lorenz stage the actions of individuals and groups living – indeed thriving – in defiance of normality, law and economics. They produce performances for the camera which upset normative historical narratives and inclusions, as queer moments and figures across time are staged, projected and layered.
