Table streaming to Ireland

David Fagan, an exchange student from Ireland, will be exhibiting his work „Table“ in the exhibition „474 m2“ in Dublin, opening on the 22nd of April.

The work consists of a table, with its tabletop surface replaced by a large flat screen television. The television screen shows an image of a wooden surface, which is in fact a live video stream of another tabletop situated in a basement in Zurich.

The image you see here is the set up of the video stream facilitated by a web camera and studio lighting.

The television in the piece represents television’s encroachment into ever more private space. While it’s content, an image which completes its disguise, is representative of the ability of television news to report from the scene a story, using evermore sophisticated technology (outside broadcasts etc.), often not adding to the context of the stories it chooses to report.
